Usually, admissions are made to the Preliminary Care Unit. This is the busiest ward in the hospital. After initial treatment, the patients are discharged or directed to the relevant units. This unit is run by an efficient team.

The pediatric unit is consisted of a ward with a separate high-dependency unit. It can accommodate 35 pediatric patients. The unit is headed by two Pediatricians and a competent staff who provide the care in motherly manner. The wall paintings, story corner, play area and the peaceful surrounding help to maintain a homely environment for the sick children.

HIV/AIDS unit was established in 1987. Currently this is the only dedicated unit for the patients living with HIV and AIDS in Sri Lanka.  The friendly staff has built an environment absolutely free of stigma and discrimination for HIV patients.  A well-trained competent team delivers a comprehensive care for these patients which is appreciated by the patients and their relatives. This unit runs a separate clinic for follow up patients. In the clinic they perform necessary investigations and issue antiretroviral drugs.

Being the focal point of Infectious Diseases, Isolation unit had played a vital role during the epidemics of Corona, SARS, H1N1, H5N1, Influenza Infections etc. It has the capacity to handle the epidemics of Infectious diseases. This unit is kept prepared to accommodate patients with Ebola, Yellow fever and other newly emerging infections during world pandemic situations. In rare instances suspicious patients are brought from the airport for quarantine purposes. The capacity is accessed by carrying out preparedness drills biannually.   It is consisted of technically designed isolation rooms for the quarantine of the patients with infectious diseases. It can accommodate 30 patients. As this is the only designated isolation ward for Infectious diseases in Sri Lanka it caters to the whole country.   Patients with Infectious diseases like Measles, Chicken pox, Tuberculosis, Covid 19 infection, Avian Influenza, Monkey pox and many more are isolated in this ward. The unit has high resilience and surge capacity to cater the services in mass infective emergency situations. During the epidemics like covid19 in year 2019 the other wards of the hospital were also evacuated and used for the management of covid patients.
