Our History
Historical Milestones
Established in 1926 on the elevated grounds of Angoda, the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) emerged as a beacon of hope in the battle against contagious ailments. Situated atop the second-highest point in the Colombo district, its inception marked a pivotal moment in Sri Lanka’s healthcare history. On February 16th, 1926, its doors swung open, welcoming patients in dire need of care and compassion.
At its inception, the hospital comprised three permanent wards, including a paying ward, alongside several expansive temporary Cadjan sheds. With just one-grade I Medical Officer, two Apothecaries, and two Nursing Officers, the institution embarked on its noble mission.
